At last, archery season is here! Actually on the way home last night about 8:30 p.m., as we were parked at a stop light, Joan said "Look at that rack!"
I looked to the left and there, on top of a truck's canopy was a 'non-typical' elk rack. It was fresh too because it was plain to see that it was fresh. It was a nice rack, 6-7 points and the last points were 'palmated' so it was unusual.
I turned to Joan and said; "Yes, nice rack...but...hunting season doesn't start until tomorrow!"
It took a while for the light to change and when it finally did the truck was out of sight. I contemplated driving after it to get the license plate number and/or call the police/F & Game. I was very tired so I decided to not try to race after the truck because last time I called the police to report a drunk driver swearing and nearly going off the road several times I was told by the ISP, "There are no officers in the area, or available, so there is nothing we can do." When I left the trail of the drunk driver and drove 1 block, I was met by 2 Sheriff's cars within a couple of minutes. Yep, no one available to remove the drunk, and dangerous, driver from the road. Call F & Game???, hmmm. It was after 5:00 p.m. and nobody would be there.
I continued on home and thought, well, if the guy is crazy enough to shoot a bull elk before the season...and then drive through town with it on the top of his truck, if he doesn't get stopped by a police officer...then I guess he 'earned it'.
I on the other hand, had to work today, and yesterday for that matter, so no 'early season' or 'opening day' hunt for me. Oh well, maybe tomorrow? Ha. I won't hold my breath.
